We just need more subscription based games !!! It's the only way to have a fair and non p2w game. Forget a few dumb people, that cry out loud about not having money to pay for a sub and/or the game !! Cause then, they will cry about it's to grind to even reach same level of those that pay or it's p2w. Also, those people that end up paying, in a mobile type game, more per month than a sub on a real game, need to stop spending money on this trash!!

Pay to win barely ever works. Nobody wants that! Greedy fucking publishers/devs... I monthly sub for a well made mmo i understand. If they release content updates frequently and such. But all the rest of monitization is just pure bullshit and greed.

Honestly, i am tired of the p2w stuff. With that said, battle passes seem to be the new sub model. No perfect, not best, but kinda seems that way. So, those i kinda cringe at, but i dunno maybe due to stockholm syndrome, or something like that, has me accepting the passes. The 2 games where I dont mind the cash shop are GW2. GW2 has some pay for convenience, but not enough to drastically effect the game. Only reason I do not mind the FFXIV shop is because they dont shove it in your face, and the items are half the cost of what WoW charges for the things, and are completely optional, and pretty much provide no advantage other than saving time. That, and I also believe Yoshi P, the funds generated from the shop go into the game for purchasing servers and stuff. I know Yoshi has flat out admitted he dislikes it, but i got a feelin his hands be tied here. Will be see how GW3 operates. Also everquest 3.

MMORPG is my favourite genre, but now im a dad gamer. I switched to mostly playing offline games and been really enjoying my time.

conan exiles structure of cities and villages kinda suck. something wrong with the dimensions. idk, that game isnt very good imo.

been saying this stuff about subscription for so long. people don't seem to realise thats the best option by far. if its not sub mode, then it just becomes a real life game, the rich get to have fun, the poor don't.

Gamers bitch and moan about pay to win, and then they go and play those pay to win games and spend money on them, then go back to bitching. And no, even if you play these games without spending money, you are still why those games are made, pay to win games want minnows for the whales to eat, and congratulations, you are the minnow. Don't play, don't talk about it, don't cover it on your million sub youtube channel, give it 2 years, there won't be any pay to win left

They make a Pay to Win Game....You buy it....then complain games are pay to win...And proceed to buy another Pay to win game. Seems like you are the problem. If you want Pay to Win to go away stop supporting pay to win. Maybe make a video starting a boycott of all pay to win games and make weekly video's bashing developers who do it and try and build a movement against it. You aren't a small channel and this would 100% have some type of measurable impact.

Nearly every if not all f2p game has convenience or grind skips. That’s why games have gotten more and more grindy. Personally I’ve stopped buying battle passes and any cosmetics altogether. They are giving us LESS gameplay and MORE skins/voicelines/nametags etc. less actual content and more filler. This isn’t even talking about MMOs, but any free to play game like Overwatch, League, CS, etc.

You vote with your dollars. Your $$$ and your weaknesses set the standards. Pay to win is here for good because someone paid for it.

A little fairness in MMOs would be nice. This has been the era of rich douchebags flourishing.

Almost all modern MMOs are from companies that have executive boards and only look at revenue generation and short term profits… micro transactions matter more to them than player engagement and accolades

I feel like this is why I'm going to be stuck in FFXIV forever. I don't want to be, I'd like to play an MMO that's more new, but every other MMO is plagued with p2w/gacha/labor systems. I just want to play an MMO without those limitations but good luck finding that.

There is no reason to use a sub over an optional sub. Who cares if the optional is op if it allows you to play the game for free. Locking you out the game for not having a sub is the most broken.

BDO monetization smacks you in the face especially if you are not used to playing highly monetized games buuuut you do get numb to it and can ignore most of it and do just fine. There are a lot of little things that almost every player will pay money for eventually. There are also a lot of little things that are so worthless, nobody really knows why they're even for sale. The game is probably grindier than it'd be if no cash shop exists, but at the same time there is a considerable part of the playerbase who just simply like to grind, and nothing stops them from having the best gear, and they do.

Man I was mostly with you until you did all that justification for your wow addiction with that "technically speaking bullshit"... wow tokens are some of the absolute most toxic form of monetization and absolutely destroy natural progression since suddenly there is a real world dollar value to everything you do in the game... the absolute most efficient way to play wow for the last decade is to go to work, then pay some one else with wow tokens for whatever you need... Also I'll believe AoC is going to be p2w element free when it finally releases... the idea that a studio willing to sell alpha passes for thousands of dollars isnt full of greedy fucks is just laughable to me...

Might try V Rising again, also waiting on Wuthering Waves but I guess featuring Gacha games is iffy haha

I think eso has decent monetization. What irritates me though is that subbing to eso plus should fully alleviate all convenience issues with the game. There should be no inventory management issues at all if you are paying a monthly sub. The game is overly complicated because they want to profit from annoying you. I don’t have a problem with that for f2p but membership should allow to you to fully enjoy the game

thing is whilst I obviously agree pay to win should never be a thing, people will happily pay £10+ for a monthly subscription to play (wow / FF etc) yet absolutely will not spend the equivalent amount in a F2P game, i've never played a p2w game but id assume the equal £10 a month would give you a decent gain. either way, a f2p game with genuine linear progression where you play 2 win, is the best bet to a long standing successful game

Agree A sub was my limit really, I don't mind it everyone got to do it as a community to play, and while you are subbed you get acess to all content the game has to offer. It's the best.

I'm done with any competitive online games with any p2w. Fallout 76 is about as far as I'll go. PvE Action RPG convenience. I still think that's just a means to an end game we haven't figured out yet. Also, the pay for few days early access launch needs to die.

Yeah well, they are doing what they aimed to do. Make a game that is just enough captivating to sucker in people to sell off their organs. Some pay to win games have interesting aspects, and it sucks. I'm no fan of mmos. I prefer games I don't need public servers for. There's some mmos I'd love to have a private server for just for my friends. Sadly that wont be happening.

They have to make money somehow. And people complaint for everything wants big big big update but don’t wants to support the game, you guys think everything they add is p2w. But think about if you where the creator of a free mmo you would do the same thing to get some money after you have spent a lot of money creating the game, my opinion is just enjoy the game if you don’t want to spent money it’s fine for you don’t support the game. But let the supporter support the game by spending money. That supporter will help you keep playing the game because if there is no supporter then the game have to shutdown because people like you that love the game but don’t wants to spend not even 1$ and keep complaining about no good updates.

Crazy that we have to wait aprox 1/10th of our entire life span for one game release.

I like D4s battle pass because it's so .... meaningless that I don't have any interest in getting it. Cosmetics in a game where you can't see enough of your character for it to matter except in menus? Easily ignorable. The problem with MMOs and subscriptions is that they are largely driven by finance departments, and trying to min-max the costs against the results. If you fire enough people, and release a bad product but still get enough whales spending in the cash shop, they'll authorize that. Because it makes money and that's all they care about. You COULD develop a good game that's engaging, interesting, has a pleasing aesthetic, great sound, great gameplay, that people WANT to log into every day to be part of the world and experience it, and charge a subscription fee only to access and get everything ...but then you'd have to pay for all those things. Developers like to eat and that means less of a % to your shareholders. And maybe you're making money, but you're not making ALL OF THE MONEY, and the Finance Suits don't like that either, because they promised those shareholders X+2% growth over year!. Better to create something "good enough" but with a lot of problems that you can sell the solution to, to keep dangling the carrot of hope in front of people that the game will "get better with more time".

This is why after 30 years, I've finally called it quits gaming for the most part. I'm sick of games finding more ways to take the fun out of a game in search for monetization. I'm reasonable and understand games need income to stay up and running, and I've always been a fan of the flat sub fee. It does a few things, some not so popular. To name a few: 1) The company gets recurring income 2) It's transparent - $XX month to play, want to take a break, don't pay. 3) To a degree, it helps reduce cheaters. F2P is plagued with bots and cheaters, not that sub games aren't either, but there's less because there's a monetary loss when accounts get banned. 4) Fosters a better community to a degree because everyone is paying to play the game, so everyone has something to lose by treating the community like crap I've tried so many time to pick up games I've loved for years now and keep getting stuck on the fact they designed certain systems to be less fun or more difficult and sell solutions for those issues. Leveling boring? Here's a boost. Upgrading hard? Buy this for a better chance at success. Backpack full? Buy a bigger one. Character a little heavy? Swipe here for more carry weight. Don't want to pick your stuff up? Swipe here for a pet that'll do it for you. RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG too. Why do I need to do the same thing on repeat for a stupid amount of hours to get 1 virtual thing? Grind in games is just out of control. Games are replacing content with grind. Give something a stupid low drop chance, that'll buy us an extra 200 hours!!!!! Never mind the fact they make the games where these aren't just mere conveniences, it's designed for them to be hindrances. What used to be minor pay for convenience has been replaced with pay or get left behind suffering at a snails pace while your friends leave you behind.

The real problem are the players who dish out the money to support this type of financial structure.
